2007 IFPA World Footbag Championships: Official Footbag Co-Sponsor
The typical sponsorship conversation with: “The Passerby”
“Are there competitions for that?” is a question I am often asked when passers by see me playing footbag.
“Yes there are, they even have a world championships for it,” I’ll generally reply.
“Wow! So are you sponsored or something like that? Can you make a living playing Hacky Sack?” They press on.
I politely correct them, “Hacky Sack is actually a brand name, and professional kickers generally don’t use that kind of footbag.” And then I add something to the extent of, “There are a few players that have major sponsors, but as of yet nobody that makes a living at it. There hasn’t been a lot of big money sponsorship in the past, so making a living at it hasn’t been an option. And I personally have been sponsored before but since I own my own footbag company, these days it’s me that’s the sponsor for events and players.”
So, here it is, the official announcement:
Freedom Footbags is proud to sponsor the 28th Annual IFPA World Footbag Championships August 11-18, 2007 at Disney’s Wide World of SportsĀ® complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida (USA).
After attending the World Footbag Championships for 15 years in a row, I unfortunately missed the last two (2005, Helsinki, Finland and 2006, Frankfurt Germany) due to financial difficulties. This year Worlds is back in the USA, so I will be there as both as sponsor and a competitor. Your support of this site and the IFPA makes the this event possible. Thanks!
June 26h EDIT: We revised the title of this post to make it clear that we are by no means the only sponsor of this event, nor are we the only footbag sponsor. The previous title was “2007 IFPA World Footbag Championships: Official Sponsor”. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support in making this event happen, in particular the volunteers.
There has been some understandable confusion among the community regarding Disney as well. Unfortunately, Disney is not sponsoring this event. This is part of the reason the IFPA needs as much support as possible!
