2008 IFPA World Footbag Championships: Prague
The 29th Annual IFPA World Footbag Championships starts tomorrow (Sunday, August 10th) in the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic. This is the second time Worlds has been hosted there, with the first being back in 2003. I won’t be able to attend this year due to financial constraints, but I was very happy to be able to attend back in 2003: That was the first year Worlds was held outside of North America, and it really marked a new era in the sport of freestyle footbag. Back in the early 00’s, most of the dominate names in footbag were from the USA, though there were a handful of players from Europe that were really making waves in the freestyle community. Of course, it was (now six years running) world champion Vasek Klouda that ran the pack. These days footbag is still popular in the US, but it seems to have exploded in Europe - there are countless players that can consistently play at the tripless to fearless (four to five add move) levels.
You can find out all you need to know on the official website, and we’ll be sure to post links to the videos that are sure to come.
Freedom Footbags is proud to be a sponsor of this event. We’ve donated 200 Mr. Sandbag Footbags custom embroidered with the world’s logo for the event:

The only “problem” was that we recently realized that 200 bags would not be enough for all of the players to get one! As of August 4th there were 246 registered players!! This is awesome news to me, I only wish I’d not been in such a rush to get out our sponsorship package. At least it’s shaping up to be one of the best worlds ever!
Peace.
