Is That a Sport?
Is Footbag A Sport?
Of course it is. Those that would argue have either never seen modern freestyle being played, or have a skewed (and incorrect) definition of “sport”.
Wikipedia defines “sport” as follows:
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.
So, yeah. There ya go. We obviously fill that definition readily.
You might be asking: why is Allan stating the obvious? Well, I just watched a great little trailer clip from malcohol86 over at YouTube. It’s about Barrett Neimeth’s journey to organize New York’s first footbag tournament in 10 years, and it’s titled: Is That a Sport? I liked the editing and the atmosphere it created, and there are a lot of little clips from “people in the street” in the area answering the above question; the results are depressing and funny at the same time
Here’s a video of the event in two parts, brought to you by dhsfootbag:

Cool video, I like it a lot. Unfortunately the two videos “from the event” aren’t from that event NYJ stands for New Years Jam, and is in Chicago, not New York.
