Quantum 03 Footbag Shoes: Finally In Stock!

It’s been a crazy week here at the Freedom Footbags Shredquarters in Nampa, Idaho. (FYI, I sort of ramble on here for a while, so jump ahead to get to the important information about quantum shipping if you want) I didn’t find out until late Tuesday afternoon that the Quantum shipment had finally cleared the randomly assessed customs inspection foisted upon us… Really I wouldn’t have minded so much if I wasn’t the one who ended up having to pay for he inspection out of my own pocket. But I digress. So, my wife and I drove out to Portland Tuesday evening and pulled into my good friend Red’s (known by the non-kickers at Ethan Husted, president of the Soul Pourpose Footbag Club) house at about 3:30 in the morning. We stayed up till nearly 5:00 am catching up and talking about the footbag scene there and around the country. Between the US Open, the 2nd annual NYFA Shred Symposium, the World Footbag Championships, the upcoming Beaver Open, and his roommate Nick Landes (maker of the Fourkast 14) as well as ex-roommate David Clavens (the reigning US Champion), we had some colorful and informative conversations.

Wednesday seemed to drag on and it took us until nearly 3:00 PM to finally track down the warehouse holding our precious cargo of coveted Quantum03’s ;). It turned out that the warehouse was on a loop that put us directly in front of the disc golf course called Pier Park, and took it as a sign we should get in a few holes in between our seven hour drives between home and the warehouse. We grabbed a bite to eat with Red and his girlfriend Christina and continued talk non-stop about how to really help this underground sport of footbag spread it’s wings. It took us forever to finally get on the road and moving and it was 9:30 PM by the time we actually got the van filled up and fixed our broken door (the dome light wouldn’t go out - problem solved with a bit o’ tape and a penny).

So I’m about an hour and a half into the drive when I see the flashing lights in the rear view mirror, and sure enough it’s me he’s after. Long story short it turns out our license plate lights are burned out, and we thankfully receive only a warning in lieu of a $147 ticket. Whew. He was of course quite curious about the 11 large boxes suspiciously wrapped in green tarp like material. We had our warehouse papers handy, and he didn’t take me up on the invitation to take a closer look at our cargo.

We finally pulled into Nampa at about 4:15 am, fully exhausted. The order was not well organized and it took the better part of the day to simply get everything sorted out by size and color and start the boxing process. Each pair of shoes was in a small plastic bag which had to be carefully opened to see what size the shoe actually was - this is a long process with 200+ pairs of shoes to sort through. I also had to drive to Boise to since it was the last day to contest a ticket I’d received a few weeks earlier - a “failure to stop at a stop sign”. What a fricking crock that ticket was - I sincerely invite you all to take a very scrutinizing look over the next week or so and see what percentage of people actually come to a 100% complete stop at a stop sign. When I was pulled over I honestly had no idea why I had been… (This is what made the stop on the way home all the more intense - I was like, “not agian”!)

The Meat of this Blog:

Back to the shoes here finally… Let’s start with the bad news and then move right into the bad news. Upon opening first box I realized there was a problem with the order, and all future boxes only solidified this position: Our solid white Quantums were definitely not just white: They were all stitched with ORANGE thread…

Mind you this isn’t a show-stopper, but I feel bad about misrepresenting how my product was going to look (even though I was told by the supplier that the shoes would be all white). Once the shoes were finally laid out, and sorted by size and color, it was clear that there was a second significant problem with the order: We were not shipped the size distribution we ordered. Namely, Black 10’s - we did not receive a single pair. We did receive the balance of black shoes in size 10.5’s, so at least the total quantity was correct.

It was extremely difficult to anticipate what sizes and colors are going to be ordered when making my original purchase (I did this before I had the now ended “Pre-Sale”), and while I got some colors and sizes about right, others were pretty far off. Our 9.5 Blacks were sold out very quickly, and we’re also out of the Contessa (pinkish) Size 13’s (I didn’t expect to see so many guys ordering pink shoes!). We do still have a good selection of most sizes, but the Blacks are more popular than I had guessed they would be, so they are selling out quick. On a side note, we still have quite a few of the smaller sizes available in the Quantum 02’s, and they are also now ON SALE!
