Shred Idaho 2007 Footbag Tounament: Results, Review, and Video

The third annual Shred Idaho Footbag Tournament was, as expected, quite a blast! All in all there was a rather small turnout of players, but the high level of talent made up for the lack in numbers. We had Zach Jahner make the trip all the way from Michigan, Justin Dale flew in (somewhat unexpectedly at the last moment) from Seattle, emcee Ethan “Red” Husted (thank you Red!) and his protege Nick Landes from Portland, Evan Lovely, Jeremiah Bechard-Somberg, Kevin Crowley, and Eric Riley Stark from Missoula, Erik Engeberg from Salt Lake, and the local Idaho crew of Jim Penske, Zeb and Zac Jackson, Sunny Freeman Genz, Dylan Johnson, myself, and the not so local Kyle Hewitt from Swan Valley, Idaho and last but not least we had a few local kickers that showed up to watch but did not compete. This year we had so many solid players that it just didn’t make sense to have an intermediate category, so we simply had an open competition.

Events included Rippin Run, Circle Competition, and Routines… Here’s how it all came down:

Circle:

  1. Jim Penske
  2. Justin Dale
  3. Daryl Genz
  4. Kyle Hewitt

Rippin’ Run:

  1. Kevin Crowley

Routines:

  1. Jim Penske
  2. Daryl Genz
  3. Justin Dale
  4. Kevin Crowley
  5. Zach Jahner
  6. Kyle Hewitt

I’d like to give a special thank you to Zeb Jackson for taking the time to make an awesome video showing some of the highlights of the event. You can download the high resolution video (Windows Media, 77 Meg) from our gallery, or watch the YouTube video below (or watch it on YouTube):

This year the performance stage was tucked away in the back of the Hyde Park Street Fair, so we didn’t get quite the crowd we had last year, but those who did happen to stumble across the performance were not let down. Jim had an amazing 85 contact run in the circle comp (which was caught on video) and he also gave a very solid dropless performance to easily take routines. I had one of my better routines in a long time with only on drop in the choreographed two minutes, and got second place.

We have a few extra shirts left over for sale in the shred shop, so pick one up if you’re interested.

Peace.
