		<description>I had the 1st gen. iPhone, which I jailbroke and unlocked, and it was all good. I have since upgraded to 3G, however, and don't see much reason to jailbreak this one. 
You can jailbreak the new one to install unofficial third party apps; you just can't unlock them to work on just any carrier (yet). 
With all the apps available in the AppStore, I just don't see much a need to jailbreak unless I can find an IM client that does proper push notification (not as a background process). There are a couple of other apps that I miss (Touchpad rocks), but I'm not voiding my warranty over them.
