Our sincere thanks go to all people who support and spread this initiative by organizing Circle contest
events.

Here is a brief overview of the contest and what it aims to do:

Overview

Format
three to five players compete head-to-head in a Circle in a specified amount of
time, split in three heats. The player(s) who shows the most skill advances to the next
round. Each round eliminates more players, working its way to the final Circle of three
competitors.
Judging
three (or more) expert players not competing in the event are chosen to
evaluate the players’ performances and give a rank at the end of each heat, based on
execution of difficulty, variety and form.
Officiation
each Circle has one referee, whose main duty is to maintain a fair
competition. He ensures players abide by the etiquette, and penalizes for any violations.
Required reading – really everyone should read the entire Circle contest document, but
for those who just want to skip to the info pertinent to them, here is what you should
read: Players must read the Players Guide; Judges must read the Players and Judges
Guides; Referees must read the Players and Referees Guides; MCs must read the
Organizers and Players Guides; and finally Organizers must read the whole document.,

Thanks to Eli and Ianek a(and Sebastien) for r their efforts with this. I haven’t seen if this has been submitted to IFPA officially yet, or not (I don’t get those e-mails any more since I resigned my position), but I’m sure this format is destined to become a standard in the future. I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to compete using it, but I look forward to seeing a circle contest unfold live and in person :-D
